A little more than twelve Seasons ago, the cats of San Diego, California lived in complete harmony. That was, of course, before a Stranger -- a cat that had traveled many miles to arrive at this city -- warned all the cats of a danger approaching rapidly. No one knew what the Stranger was talking about, and they all thought she was crazy.
Then the Queen of the city, a she-cat named Marah, gave birth to two she-cats. This was a little unusual, for the cats back then usually had litters of three to six. The kits were both pure white, but one had black-tipped ears and an orange muzzle, while the other had a reddish-striped tail and tabby markings on her face. The first kit with the black-tipped ears was named Loki; the second was named Mau.
Now, as they grew up, Marah could tell that the sisters were very different. Loki was curious, but she was always scared and timid. She would jump at any loud noise made, and then start shaking. She was shy, as well. Loki had a high tolerance though, and was more patient than her sister. Mau, on the other hand was curious as well, but she had a problem with following others. Meaning, she would rather be a leader than a "mindless follower". Mau was also a bit nosy, sticking her nose into business she shouldn't be. She was interested in learning about the outside world.
While Mau was the second born, she had the honor of her eyes opening a week before her sister. Loki was a slow developer, and Mau always bragged about it. But Mau soon learned that the outside world was not all it was cracked up to be. Mau learned that her father had been the King of the city; but he had been killed by a rogue from another town when she was a little more than three days old. Mau began learning about the world; and what she learned scared the crap out of her.
She tried to voice her fears to her kithood friends, but they all thought she was making a big deal out of nothing. They teased her. Mau tried to go to her sister, Loki, but Loki didn't know what she was afraid of, claiming that her fears weren't rational. So Mau grew up, scared and alone, until she was about four Seasons old. By then Marah had passed from an infected rat bite, and Mau grew cold. She began to hate her sister, and soon they were rivals. They split the city in half, each keeping one for themselves.
Each of them gathered a group of cats, making their own Gang. Soon cats of all ages knew about the sisters and their rivalry. Loki's Gang was considered the "good guys" of the city, so they were honored with the name "The Pure." But Mau's Gang was the one that stole from the cats, murdered aimlessly, and fought unfairly. They had the curse of being called "The Tainted."
Since then, The Pure and The Tainted had been enemies. Every day they collide; cats are dying.
Who's side will you be on?
